As the Truro collect their wounded and dead, Frong stays in the remains of Tapisillium waiting for Desdina. At daybreak blossom forms on the tree, she emerges and the two begin to climb out through the fissure to where the angels are dancing in the sky to greet their heroes. The angels take Desdina’s hand to raise the lovers up to the sun with them, but as Desdina is lifted away a snake grabs Frong dragging him back into the ground. The final battle between Frong and Webron ensues.
Webron stings Frong but is too weak to kill him. With his last ounce of energy Frong delivers the killing blow to Webron and collapses. He wakes up hours later, alone with Webron’s body and manages to drag himself down to the lake where the Queen rescues him. She takes him away to heal in the moon then when he is well enough she returns to earth, but Etruria lies in ruins. Despite Sartis’ regret for the destructive course of her actions her hex cannot be undone and the fall of their age has already begun. Ayrlin binds Frong to the moon until the new age when he shall be reunited with Desdina. Eons pass, the Brisleys take over from the Truro as the leading race, machines replace the lost magic of the old world and mankind begins. Years later on the ninth day of the third month Frong awakens in the eclipse to find Desdina. They return to earth to find the modern world and live amongst us as teachers and unsung saints.
